About The Don Bell House

Situated on the lush irrigated banks of the Verde River, the Don Bell House served as the home of Don Bell, a prominent rancher in Camp Verde.

Built in 1917, it is a 1 ½ story adobe, craftsman style bungalow with a side-gabled roof with a shed dormer, and a front porch. The foundation, chimneys, and porch piers are built of river cobble and concrete. The exterior walls are constructed of adobe, made from soil west of the house near the Verde River, and then covered in stucco. The original walls are approximately 12 inches thick adobe brick which offer natural insulation and which create deep window and door openings.

Much of the hardware is original to the house, and it is made of copper from local copper mines. The mission style front door and front windows contain the original glass. An addition was added to the back of the house in 1989 which is not visible from the front, and it is in harmony with the rest of the building.
